A set of shaders built for the underwater environment of a VR therapy application, designed to feel calming and otherworldly while remaining performant on Meta Quest (forward rendering).
Translucent Water Bubble: soap bubble shader with iridescent rim, panning caustic normal lines between spheres, and World Position Offset for organic movement. Used as the interactive elements in the Cognitive Triangle CBT module.
Body Scan: opaque water shader with Fresnel edge glow and a sphere mask MPC for localised highlight effects. Opaque by design, avoiding translucency overdraw on mobile VR. Used to represent the player avatar during body scan meditation.
The goal throughout was minimal instruction count, striking visual result. Every effect earns its cost. For example, distorting the caustic lines was considered but skipped. The added instruction count had minimal visual payoff at VR resolution and viewing distance. These tradeoffs are baked into every decision across the set.
